Another Unknown Fungus

American Elm Log
This is a look at the log where I found the mushrooms.  The reddish brown mushrooms were growing, not out of the wood, but in the dead moss on the log.  I moved it away from the white mushroom and one fell off.

As you can see, the spores are white.

And they look like this.

Unknown Fungus

Unknown Fungus
This one was on the American Elm Log from yesterday.  I am assuming that it is primordia of the fungi following.

Unknown Fungus
There are various levels of it growing as you can see.  The gills are pronounced and deep.

It was growing out of the wood as you can see.  I had to cut away wood to remove it.

American Elm Log

American Elm Log
I found this log which has many different fungi growing on it.  I am extremely frustrated with identifying mushrooms.  I think that one of my mistakes has been to assume that mushrooms growing on the same log and looking somewhat similar are the same.

Bark
Log
You can see that the log is partially decorticated, bark partially off.

Camera Setup for Fungi Unknown
The brownish red mushrooms were growing in the dead moss on the trunk not on the wood.  I accidentally touched the moss and the top one fell off.  The white ones are growing on the wood itself.

Smart Phone Camera

Nutcracker
This kind of shot is greatly frowned upon for many reasons.  As a grandfather I was willing to risk expulsion for it.  Doing it caused me to think through some settings on my Samsung Galaxy S4.  It has "anti-shake".  I made this shot resting the camera on my knee, if I remember correctly.  The slowest shutter speed that the camera chose was 1/30.  Slower would have been better obviously, but I would have needed a stable support.  I have a device, RetiCam, with which I can attach it to a tri/monopod.  I have been practicing walking with my monopod using it like a cane so I can get it inside.  I had problems with exposure, not on this one.  I found that the Galaxy has three metering modes available, Centerweighted, evaluative and spot.  I, in the future would choose spot for a shot like this.

Ceiling
I thought the ceiling worth a shot.

Theater
I liked the lines of the different levels.

Street Photography

Caleb and Street Muscian
Caleb and I walked out to look at the outside of the theater.  We saw this gentleman playing his tenor sax.  Being a photographer, I wanted to photograph him.  My first thought was to ask his permission.  I then realized he was probably hoping for contributions.  He had his sax case open on the sidewalk beside him.  I noticed he seemed to know different people entering the theater.  I put some money in his case.  I felt happy.  I did not ask him but I proceeded to prepare to take his picture.  He invited "little dude" to join him in the picture.  I don't think Caleb was especially happy to be in the picture.

I liked his "sweet" tone.  I thought his articulation was sloppy.  I could tell that he was far from being a beginner.  I wondered if he played professionally, once.  I just noticed he had on a ring on his "marriage" finger.  I wonder what his story is.

I have often thought that I might really like "street" photography.
