November 15 - January 12

Lesser Scaup Print
Yesterday was opening day.  You have almost two months to shop but remember that the early shoppers get the best selection.  I have a new way of printing and exhibiting my prints.  I call them Faux Metal Prints.  I use Simply Elegant Metal Chrome paper.  They are mounted on the wall so that they stand out about an inch.  There is no frame except a slight stroke around the outside.

GMC Sunrise Metal Print
I have also displayed prints made on aluminum.  I call these Metal Prints.  They are mounted on the wall, also, to stand off about one inch with a only a slight stroke around the outside.

Lichen?

False Turkey-tail Fungus
I happened to notice this fungus growing on a still standing dead tree the other day.  Fungus must have a photosynthetic partner to create lichen.  Though in the forest, the sun hits the tree in the mornings providing a good place for the algae to grow on the fungus.  I would like to watch this scene to see what transpires.  Will a lichen emerge?

Trail and Tree Leaves

Trail and Tree
I made this image for what it does to my eye.  The trail, of course, is a leading line.  I think that the way it is composed makes the trail imply the continuance of the line to the red tree leaves in the upper left.  Actually, the trail comes to a "T" just around the corner and does not go toward the tree.  Do you get that effect of the trail leading to the tree with your eye?

Grandchildren

Evie, Loudon, Lucas
I was able to spend a little time with my grandchild during the celebration.

Loudon, Caleb, Reed, Evie, Lucas
Their grandpa Lloyd got a golf cart.  The kids love riding it.  They met me in the parking area and hauled my things in for me.

Loudon, Caleb, Reed, Evie, Lucas
The clouds were alternating between great light and too strong/contrasty.  Caleb would push the button on the remote release when I told him.  My diffuser was not large enough.  I really like the grass as a backgroun!

Grass
The orange grass in the bottom of the image is Little Bluestem.  We have it at Gorman also.  I asked Grandpa Terry if he planted it.  He said that he did not.  It just comes up yearly.  I think that it is beautiful.  This is not a particularly good shot.  The DOF is too shallow.

Carrie's Birthday

Megan and Carrie
Carrie invited us down to her and Andrew's cabin to celebrate her 29th birthday this year.

Terry Lloyd, Chad and Loudon
Terry Lloyd, seen in the left rear, arranged for the kiddies to go pony riding.

Evie and Jenny
The activity was held at Four Mile Bakery and General Store owned by Shawn Richendollar.  His daughter Jenny helped the children ride.

Reed, Caleb and Chad
Reed and Caleb chose not to ride.

Lucas
A great time was had by all!

Wild Plant Seeds

Eulalia Grass
Our clump of Eulalia Grass has enlarged since last year.  It seems that the timing for the seeds to form on the inflorescences just coincides with the November season and the light at that time.  They are soft and fluffy upon close examination.

Canada Goldenrod
Another plant exhibiting soft fluffy seeds is the Canada Goldenrod.

In the case of both of these plants, the seeds will fly away when the wind takes them.  They provide food for the birds at this time.

Post Halloween Spider Webs

Spider Web
Halloween is long gone but I have just a couple images of spider webs left in my folder.  This was morning light but the sun was not close to shining on the web.

Spider Web
At the same time I made the image at the top the sun was shining on this web.  I liked the way the light set off the dewy strands.
