Female Common Whitetail

Female Common Whitetail
The adult male personifies its name because the abdomen is very white and thus quite visible.  The female, not so much.  I think that I have settled on viewing the breadth of the abdomen as my tip off.  Previously, I might have mistaken this insect for a female twelve-spotted skimmer.

Notice the white edges on the upper segments of the abdomen and its width.

Mining Bee

Mining Bee
These flowers, have long since quit blooming.  Arriving early enough to see the bee still not moving as he/she dries and warms is the key to a shot like this.  They love this plant.  I thought, at one time, that was the wild version of purple foxglove.  I now believe it to be the Obedient Plant thanks to Cheryl Harner

Spiders are for Halloween

Long-jawed Orbweaver
I shot more shots of the Long-Jawed Orbweaver than any other spider this season.

There are, however; other spiders of which to take note.  One is the Grassland Crab Spider.  (See Below)  Happy Halloween, all!

Long-jawed Orbweaver

I have so many shots of the Long-jawed Orbweaver Spider from this season that will show them small.

They hide on the vertical cattail leaves and stalks.

Those jaws are as big as their head!

These Frogs sit quietly while I watch for insects and do the same.  Every once in a while I will hear one lung for an insect.

Katydid

Katydid
I found this insect in the grass and stems.  It's not a great shot but I get the feeling that am seeing it when I look.  AKA: Bush Cricket, there are over 6000 species.

Frog

Wood Frog?
I am unsure whether this is a green frog or a wood frog.  I think that I am leaning toward Wood Frog.  It does not have the characteristic mask behind the eye.  The green on its upper lip is not dark and there is none elsewhere on the body that I can see.  The green is probably yellow which would indicated Wood Frog.  I also read that they can change their colors.
