Male Red-winged Blackbird

Red-winged Blackbird Male
He has some females in his harem.  The nests are along the edge of the pond.  He is aggressive, flying close to my head.  I try to ignore him and do not search for the nests.  I stay on the trail.  I am using my Sigma 50 - 500 mm zoom lens.  It gives a comfortable, for the bird and me, working distance.  I can get frame filling shots without getting too close.

I sometimes use the mono pod or I hand hold the camera.  It depends on whether I have enough time to set up.

I try to be careful.  I have read about these birds attacking humans at this time of year.

Long-billed Thrasher

Long-billed Thrasher
It is the same tree in which I saw the cowbird.  I always look up there in case there is a bird perched.  That particular morning it was a Long-billed Thrasher.  I wish I would have had time to make a recording.  I am glad that I got the shot.
