A Landscape of the Pond

GNC Pond
I arrived the other morning to see the geese in the steam.  As soon as I stopped, they started to swim to the peninsula.  I knew that I did not have time to set up the tripod so I snapped this one hand held.  I had some flare but was able to work it out.  I would have preferred to use the tripod but in this case would have missed the shot had I tried.

Mallard Drake

Mallard Drake
I found this duck and his mate on the pond the other morning.  A friend was sitting on the bench photographing them but I did not recognize him because he had a towel over his head.  He was using it like a blind.  I did not take a second look.

I was able to get to the south side of the pond which is my preferred location because of the location of the sun this time of year.  I thought that I was having success with the captures so I got my milk carton upon which to sit.  I turned to get my pad and when I looked back they had launched.  They launch without a sound.  I had no warning.  I need to apologize to my friend when I see him for scaring off the ducks.

Red-winged Blackbird

Red-winged Blackbird Female
They are here so long during the summer that I cease to hear them.  They are just a part of Gorman.  When they leave suddenly in the autumn, I have to stop and think what is missing from the bouquet of sound.

Red-winged Blackbird Male
I see them perched on the old cattails.  I thought maybe they were eating seeds but someone pointed out that they were using the fluff to build nests.  Either way, I like them and their sounds.

OSU May 2013 Graduation

Lexy Yoha
Our baby buckeye is no longer a baby.  She graduated last Sunday and Carol and I were privileged to attend.  We heard President Obama speak.

Tiffany, Lexy, and Steve Yoha
We are very proud of all three.  It is a remarkable accomplishment.

Lexy has a job with Abercrombie and Fitch at the home office in New Albany.  She begins as a manager in training.  Her BA in Strategic Communications should fit well.

Congratulations, Lexy, Steve and Tiff.

Nature Walk at Gorman

Steve McKee
Steve is the head guy at Gorman.  He lead a wildflower walk on Saturday morning of the Mohigan Wildlife Weekend.  I think that it was Steve who inspired me years ago to learn about nature.  I remember him leading outings and sharing his knowledge with us.  I thought I would like to know all those things.  I know now that I will never make it but may learn a few.

I did not get to complete the walk because I had a soccer game to attend.  I, never-the-less, enjoyed it while I was there.  Thanks, Steve.

Steve McKee
Oh, and Steve is still learning, too.
