Banded Garden Spider

Banded Garden Spider
I shot this little guy with flash and a Sigma 70 - 300 mm macro lens on a 1.4x converter.

Why did I shoot it?  Because it was there.  I explained to a friend the other day that I used to play a trombone when I was in high school and college.  I did so much practicing that it became a part of me.  I don't play the trombone any more but I do get to practice with my camera.  It is fun to make viewable images.

Banded Garden Spider
For this capture, I used a Sigma 105mm macro lens, sans flash.  The sun was just starting to hit the spider as you can see.  It is not a large spider.  If I understand correctly it is related to the Black and Yellow Argiope, a much larger spider.

Bowl and Doily Spider

Bowl and Doily Spider
I happened across this little guy the other morning.  His web was at a good height for me to see.  I noticed that he seemed to be on the bottom of the bowl.

I used a Sigma 70 - 300 mm macro lens on a 1.4x teleconverter for this shot.  It was difficult to get a pleasing angle.  The web was located in the shade just before the sunlight hit it, interesting light.

I thought the design interesting when I viewed it.  It seems to draw my eye in, even at a distance.  I like the dew drops on the web.

This web was located higher than any of these webs I have noticed.  Usually, they are located near the ground, too low for me.

Jumping Spider

Jumping Spider
This little guy hitched a ride home in my hair the other day.  He jumping into the sink as I started to wash my hands.  I rescued him any placed him in my light tent.  I remembered walking through a spider web strung across the path that morning.  For a reason unknown, I did not wipe it away as I usually do.

I made many images of him and was excited to process them.  I immediately noticed that not one appeared sharp.  It was like using a beauty blur or something.  I cleaned my glasses, put drops in my eyes and rested.  They still were not sharp.  I am looking for another subject presently.

The only cause for this blurriness I can think of is lack of enough light to see to focus.  Next time, want to set up a video light to use for focusing.

Jumping Spider
I used my Mamya f /1.7 lens reversed for the closeup lens on this.  It was mounted on the Sigma 105 mm macro lens.  The camera was on the tripod and I had loosened the ball.  I held the camera as I wood without a tripod and followed his movements.  I used the shutter button for this capture.

I will try to catch another one and redo this shoot.

Tractor Details

If you happened to see yesterday's blog, you will maybe appreciate seeing these details.  They were not done with attention to perfection.  I think that they are more pragmatic in nature.

These are all modifications about which we would not have possessed the imagination to dream back in the day.  Besides, they would not have served our purposes.

Tractors

Allis Chalmers WD
In 1955, I drove one of these for my father.  Actually it was from several years before 1955 until several years after,  This is almost a standard configuration for the tractor.  It was a 2 to 3 plow tractor.  I think that the bottoms were 14" unlike today.  Actually, there is little plowing done today.

I happened to be at the Bellville Street Fair the other day and saw a WD configured to pull a sled at a contest.

Allis Chalmers WD
This tractor has been modified to compete at a tractor pull.

Allis Chalmers WD
It has larger rear tires and bars to prevent it from overturning.

Allis Chalmers WD's
Notice that the standard configuration tractor on the left has rear tires much smaller than the one on the right.

Allis Chalmers WD
It has a different air filter and intake.  It has a chrome alternator.  The original had a generator.  The exhaust pipe is larger and, no doubt, chrome plated.  The battery case has been removed.

Back then, styling, grill, hood and gas tank, was beginning to show.  This shape showed itself on the WC before the WD.
