Grandchildren

Grandchildren
I was able to see a large number of my grandchildren recently.  Unhappily, two were unable to attend.  I sat on the porch this year and they came to see me there.  I brought my nets and they tried to net things from the pond for me to photograph.

Hard/Dog Tick
One of them brought this tick up to the porch.  His mom took it off him.  She graciously let me photograph it.

Hard/Dog Tick
I feel like I know more about this tick after photographing it.

We had a great time.  We even had cousins present.  We met in Jackson County, Ohio

Canter's Cave 4-H Camp

Some of you will remember attending Band Camp at Canter's Cave.  The nearest I can come to it is that is was in the summer of 1971.

I recently had occasion to travel to Jackson County, Ohio and stopped to reminisce.  I met Anita who is the current camp director.  She gave me permission to walk around and make these images on this private campground.

None of the current staff were employed there in 1971.  What does this fact say about our ages?

Main Building
This building was built after our camp.

The main building which existed during our visit was located behind the concrete pad where the picnic tables sit.

Current Swimming Pool
The current swimming pool sits in one end of what I believe was the practice field where we slaved in the heat.

Current Practice Field
The current practice field sits at the end of the lane near the road.

Volleyball Court
The old swimming pool became a sand volleyball court.

I seem to remember that some of you walked the trail.  I wish I had.

I tried to remember the camp staff that we brought along.  I think that Juanita Bryant was our camp cook.  The meals were great.  Janet McConnell, a personal friend, was the camp nurse.  That is all that I remember.  Did we have sectional rehearsals?  If so, who led them?  Did we use seniors?  Did we have individuals who stayed the cabins with you?

Your memories are probably better than mine.

Rock Assortment

Rock Assortment
Lilly gave me these.  They are all polished and transparent/translucent.  I have been reading Light and Lighting by Michael Freeman and came across a section on bottom lighting.  I immediately thought of these rocks.  I used my Logan slide light box.  I liked the result but thought of another way.

Rock Assortment
I used flash to show the polished surfaces of the rocks.  I really thought that it enhanced the overall image.

Settup
This is the setup that I used for the above shot.  I set ec (exposure compensation) to +2 and fec (flash exposure compensation) to 0.  As you can see, I used the Stoffen diffusers on the flash heads.  I really liked the soft highlights produced.

Back up

New Router
We had a power anomaly last Thursday and I lost what I thought were all my routers.  I could get internet at the modem but it would not pass through the routers any longer.

I ordered two new routers, D link DIR-815 from Tiger Direct on Friday by phone.  They came late last night after I was in bed.  I installed the first one this morning and it appears that I can reuse one of the previous routers.

I am glad to be back up.  My wife Carol, not a techy type of person, was trying to hack into the neighbor's network.   I told her to call and ask permission but she did not want to.  She was having serious internet withdrawal.  Friends were saying they missed her on Pintrest.  One friend sent a telephone message to say that she missed her.

My son, Chad and family, lost power at their house last Friday.  They had very strong storms that day.  The had no damage but lost power.  They have been suffering with the heat since their new generator will not operate the air conditioning.  Their power was restored last night.  I am really glad for them.
