2012 Calendar Image

Bench Pond Steam
I am producing another calendar for next year.  I am at the point of choosing an image for it.  I sat down with Carol last evening and looked for one.  I liked the ones she chose and I wonder what you think.  What would you like to see on the calendar?  Please chose one and comment.

Water Lily

I know that some of you like this one.

Common Chicory
Carol seemed to like this one a lot.

Goldenrod Prairie Grass
I was surprised that she liked this one.  Usually she does not like the ones I like.

You may notice that there is no wildlife in this group.  Carol is not a fan of it for decoration purposes.  The calendar image will come from this group unless I get some strong requests for wildlife.

Brother

Larry & Craig Eicher
I have a brother named Lowell Craig.  We called him Craig but I do not know why.  I am three years older but I have always looked "up" to him.  I think because he was and is smarter.  He was lucky in this picture to wear short pants.  I had to wear that suit which mother loved and I hated.  It was made of wool and it itched my legs.  She finally let me wear a pair of pajama bottoms under it.

I am thankful for my brother.

Thankful for Roots

Lowell & Frieda Eicher
I am more thankful this year for my roots than I have been at any other time in my life.  My Parents were Lowell and Frieda Baker Eicher.  They were married on Dec. 21, 1941, two weeks after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.  The above picture was dated, as you can see, 1943.  For some reason, I have always thought it was a wedding picture.  Maybe it was, just a delayed one.

Carmony Farm
We lived on the Carmony Farm owned by my Grandmother, Grace Carmony Eicher.  Dad gave Grandma one half of all proceeds from the operation.  He also bought an adjacent farm which we called the Trobridge place.  I think that this shot may be from the mid-fifties.  I grew up as a farm hand.  This place consumed most of my waking energy, or so it seemed.

Cary and Lola Carmony
One of our neighbors, on the north, was Cary and Lola Carmony.  Cary was the brother of Grace, my grandmother.  Their farm was about the size of the Trobridge place.  This picture might be from their 50th Anniversary.  I came across this picture while searching for another recently.  I had to think about it for a while.  I decided that my children would never know who these people were unless I told them.

I am thankful for my roots.

Highbush Cranberry

Highbush Cranberry
These berries are highly noticeable since the foliage is gone.  They are larger than the rose hips of the multiflora rose.  They don't have stickers either.  I liked the background which is the lowland forest about 1/4 to 1/2 mile away.  I tried to make a video of this but was displeased with the result.  I may try again if I get the chance.

Another Red Squirrel

Red Squirrel
I saw this little fellow the other day.  He was lit with front light and had a nice catch light in the eye.  I have been suspecting that these squirrels have a sound that I may have attributed to a bird that I don't know.  I need to observe them make the sound before I know.

Bluejay

Bluejay
I have been noticing that we have lots of this kind of bird.  I am becoming aware of their call and songs.  I see them quite a lot.  They permeate the sound recordings that I make.  They are a feisty bird.  Many of the other birds stay away from them.  The lack of leaves on the trees makes it possible to see them more often.

Autumn Tree Shots

Tulip Poplar
It seems to me that some of the trees are dropping their leaves late this year.  I have been enjoying this tree by the parking lot at Gorman.

American Sycamore
I loved the bark on this tree and the fruit.  I even liked the sky for the background.

Cottonwood
The morning light is marvelous!  I loved how it lit this cottonwood.
