Mysterious Caterpillar

Lunata Zale Caterpillar
One morning, recently, I finished my walk at Gorman Nature Center and began to stow my gear.  I found this guy on the camera bag.  I was unsure where I had picked up the hitch hiker.  I carry a butterfly tent in my truck, so I put him in and brought him home.  His life depended on my identifying him and getting him the appropriate food.  Caterpillars eat only "host plant" food, usually leaves.  I photographed him using a technique that Dave Fitzsimmons uses to see if I could do it.  I am pretty certain of my ID but I think that it was too late to save his life.  He would have died in the parking lot anyway without his host plant.

Common Baskettail Dragonfly
Maybe it's the lazy days of summer, but I love to photograph dragonflies.

White False Indigo Bloosom and a Bee

White False Indigo
Remember our discussion regarding the White False Indigo flower?  It was a pretty complete discussion but they say a picture is worth a thousand words.  It that is true, how many words is a video worth?  I was able to capture the bee on the flower, complete with enhanced sound.  This is the way the flower looks when the bee approaches.  The bee's weight and churning legs cause it to open and expose the reproductive parts.  The video is titled

More of Airport Day.

Beechcraft Biplane
This was a beautiful display item!  It comes complete retractable landing gear and tail wheel.  That prop is chrome.
Mooney M2OR Ovation 2
This plane had some interesting angles.  I would say that it is a deluxe model.

T-51 3/4 Scale P51
I have heard lots about the P51.  I, at first, thought I was seeing one for the first time.  I soon realized that it was too small.  This person built his from a kit.  It has a V-6 auto engine in it.  He is a machinist and is planning on making parts for a full sized mockup.

T51 cockpit
The pilot told me that this plane is a lot more docile than the real P51.  I don't quite follow that since I have heard that the P51 was a pilot's plane and was loved.

After the war, I have heard that good condition P51's could be had for $2000.00.  Now, if you can find them, they go for upwards of $1,000,000.00.  Wish I could fly!

Mansfield Lahm Airport Day 2011

C27j Spartan
Mansfield Airport Day was held last Saturday.  I was allowed to walk through the above plane with my grandsons and son.  It is the new transport flown by the 179th here in Mansfield.

KC-135 Tanker
I went out on Friday before and filmed this plane doing "touch and goes."  I also filmed it landing and being set for display.  I talked to a member of the crew who was headed back to his home in Columbus for the weekend.  I find the video most exciting.  Please watch!

More Clover

Yellow Clover (Sweet Clover)
I have been noticing the clover lately.  These my second try.  I photographed them the other day and did not like the result.

Lesser Hop Clover
According to Wikipedia it is not indigenous.  Some seem to think that there is a connection to the shamrock.  Holcomb's does not add anything.

Tree Cricket

Tree Cricket
I shot this on the first morning that I have heard crickets.  I would like to think that the recording is that of this cricket.  I know that it is not because they were in different parts of the meadow.  Could the first morning of sound and the first morning of seeing a cricket relate them?  I don't really know.  The bloom is some kind of rose.  I am not sure that it is multiflora but I think so.  Take a listen to the sound.  What do you think?
