Mating season is here!

Pair of Mallard Ducks
The other morning I photographed this pair of Mallard Ducks flying at Gorman Nature Center.  As you can see from the light, they were headed West.  I was also headed West and came upon them near a vernal pool later.

Pair of Mallard Ducks
I have found nests made by these ducks in past years.  I may look around that area, later, to see if I can find the eggs.  There may be some issues with them being protected since I believe that the eggs were removed from a nest I found previously.  I know that it was there because I have a picture of it.  I could not find it later.  I haven't thought to ask the naturalists about it.

Waiting on parts.

Ornamental Grass
I have thought the flumes on my son's ornamental grass beautiful for some time.  The other day, I was at his house working on his garage door.  I was waiting for them to call me back about some parts I needed.  I remembered that I had a camera in the truck so I went out back to photograph the grass.  He is about to cut it down this spring.  I experimented with background and DOF (depth of field).  The wind was blowing the grass and that presented its own problem with shutter speed.  This is the one I liked the best.  I seem to like as much of the subject in focus as I can get.  I had no way to use the tripods in my truck so I had to hand hold.  This one satisfied me for DOF.

Spring on the Rocks

Conglomerate
This is one that I either picked up in the stream bed or bought from the Laurer's.  I cleaned it for two or more weeks in wood bleach.  Pam told me about this method.  I do not believe this went through my tumbler.  (Please forgive my attempt at humor)  I love rocks but I have noticed that I love them more in the winter.  These shots must have been captured on a particularly bad day, when I did not feel like going out, before spring.

Flint
This is definitely one that I bought from the Laurer's.  It looks a little like the face of an owl to me.

Flint

I liked the strip of light blue running through the caramel colored part.  I think these colors are complementary which adds to the interest.

Spring has finally arrived!

Quicken Loans Arena
Another thing that happens in the spring is the NCAA women's and men's basketball tournament.  This past weekend, rounds two and three of the east were played in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena.  Among the teams competing was the OSU Men's team which was ceded # 1 in the tournament.

My youngest son, Chad took me to see the Bucks play.  It was exciting to see them.  We had a great view and did the "O", "H", "I", "O" with everyone.  I did think that it was pretty crowded in the arena.

I really enjoyed the view as I walked West from the arena back to my truck.  As I headed to the freeway, I drove back past the arena and the full moon had risen over it.  Since I was driving I had to miss that shot.  It was a great experience and I enjoyed it greatly.
